Harald's Holiday

E-mail Print PDF

Hallo Folks!!!

Viva la Tour
After all anticipation ,long travel , greeting of family and friends , with a couple of German beers ........,time has come , for my little trip to the south of France !! Bedoin to be exact at the bottom of the mighty "Le Mt Vontoux"
The Journey was smooth and at about midnight we laid our heads to rest. The next morning we got up at Bedoin to find the Camping ground full . Kaschi started to panic , but Bruno and I kept a cool head and searched for another Camping ground. We ended up an hour later in Pernes-Les Fontaines . It turned out to be a better spot , and the Boys already booked in there for the next year .
Quick smart all of us got to work to set up the camp and shortly after lunch , we were sitting on our bikes to loosen our tired muscles . We end up doing about 65km . The only thing was, that both Bruno and Kaschi constantly complained about my level of fitness . To their defence I must say , that the weather they had in Germany , in previous months was not good for training and they were lagging behind (a lot).

How Harald Became Happy

E-mail Print PDF

Once upon a time there was a boy who came from a country far away. He was a big boy for his age and he had lots of toys, but he was sad.

Harald had some drums but he had no one to play with. He had a bike but it was a bit big for him and the wheels were wobbly. He couldn’t keep up with his friends who had shiny silver bikes from China. He was sad. Harald had a big bike that even had a motor but sometimes he fell off and felt unhappy.

All his friends had toy cars but Harald had a big white toy truck. The truck was so big that none of his friends could play with it so Harald had to play by himself. He became lonely and sad.

One day he met a fairy Princess called Katja. She was a magic princess because she could fly to strange countries far away whenever she wanted. Harald felt lonely when Katja flew away to these far away places and wished he could go with her.
One day Katja said he could go with her and he began to feel happy. They went to Africa and saw wild animals. They went to China and saw lots of shiny silver bikes and a big wall with lots of rabbits nearby.

Harald began to feel happy when these things began to happen, but he still felt a bit sad when he saw his friends on their shiny silver bikes.

Harald told the magic princess about these things and she said “Get rid of that big truck and get a shiny red and white bike with nice red round wheels and your friends will be jealous”

Harald’s mother had taught him to always do as he was told.

He did as Princess Katja told him and he was a very happy boy and he and Princess Katja lived happily ever after.

A day in the life, part 3

So far, we've seen some excitement and tragedy in our day as a Sydney Bicycle courier. City taxi drivers often boast at the number of stories they have to tell from their time on the road. Your average bicycle courier could put them to shame. Not that anybody would listen - the Sydney riders earned themselves a bad name, mostly thanks to the tabloid TV media and their livid exaggerations...

A day in the life, part 2

Last time I introduced you, the reader, to a typical morning for a Sydney Bicycle Courier. In this episode I'll illustrate some of the beauty that can suddenly appear in the city... and some of the ugliness.

A day in the life, part 1

Ahh, the pleasures of riding around the beautiful Macleay Valley. Even in holiday season, there is not too much traffic, the roads are in reasonably good condition and we have a great choice of rides to do. The peace and quiet on a narrow country lane can be deafening! So I've decided to post a series of articles describing the opposite end of the cycling spectrum - a day in the life of a Sydney bicycle courier. Based on real memories, this was how I supported myself whilst struggling as a student and musician. Forgive me if I waffle on a bit. I hope I can provide a little insight into the sometimes extreme, usually mundane profession that is the Sydney Bicycle Courier.
