2011 Trial Bay Triathlon

E-mail Print PDF

Hello Everybody.

Thought it might be about time we breathed some new life into our Web site.

What better way to kick off by announcing the annual Trial Bay Triathlon for 2011 coming alive on the 20th February. Not much time left to train but hey, this is 'only' a sprint distance Tri and is a lot of fun to participate in be it as an individual or team competitor! You CAN DO it!!!!

Get yourself organised and get into it. At the very least we'd love to see you there to cheer those that are competing on to the finish line. Personally I will be a team competitor doing the bike and run legs with a great young fella by the name of Mitch doing the honors in the swim leg, I never have been much of a swimmer..Cool

Don't forget Also the youngsters are doing their Tri on Saturday the 19th!  Get down there and give them all the support and cheer loudly for these tough little competitors.

2010 Trial Bay Triathlon - Welcome to the Athletes and Visitors

E-mail Print PDF

The years roll round fast and here we are again a week out from the latest edition of the Trial Bay Triathlon. Seems like it was only the other day we competed in the 2009 Tri with the swim leg being canceled in favour of a sprint along the beach as persistent rain had fouled the beach and there had been sightings of Bull Sharks

South West Rocks already appears to be abuzz with anticipation as an early morning ride soon showed with numerous people out and about on there bikes many of which are clearly Triathlon bikes with aero bars and expensive looking high profile wheels.  Plenty of runners and people in the water both at Horseshoe bay and Trial bay beaches. This will only intensify over the next week with more and more athletes and visitors come to our town, welcome to them all hope their stay is a pleasant one and they achieve their goals in the Tri.

Nice ride, spoilt halfway

With the weather of late being so unkind, our small bunch this morning siezed the oportunity to absorb some sunny vitamin D and head south towards Crescent Head. Our crew consisted of the legendary Gary Gillies (180 years old but still made of iron), the mighty Brian (B1) Bateman (the man who cannot lose), Brian's stepson Tim (visiting from cane toad turf) and myself.

A gentle slog down Plummers Lane and Summer Island Road soon saw us in Smithtown, a town recently recovered from flooding. We met Harald (the Kaiser) just before Smithtown. He'd pedalled up from Crescent. Harald's looking stronger on the bike each time I see him - no doubt he'll be a tyre shredding force once again by Summer.

Caboolture to Noosa

E-mail Print PDF

This year the USM events Brisbane to Noosa had to be the Caboolture to Noosa because of travel arrangements. I rode with son in law Tim and an old mate Mick Rawlings [name misspelt in results as M.Rawlin]. The distance is listed as 100 kms but is actually 105kms.

We started in the first bunch of about 50 of the 150 starting from Caboolture just after the first few riders from Brisbane had passed by. Bunches soon formed and we rode from group to group. As usual we got split up after the first  40 to 50kms. I got over the infamous Restaurant Hill, the only other participants were walking up! I finished in a good fast working bunch into a headwind up the David Low Way to Noosa.
